Craps is the fastest and loudest game on a casino floor, and it translates surprisingly well to online and live-dealer tables. Behind the noise sits a simple structure: one shooter, two dice, and a betting layout that ranges from some of the best odds in the building to some of the worst.

What the Craps Casino Game Is

Craps is a dice game in which players bet on the outcome of a roll or a series of rolls. One player, the shooter, throws the dice; everyone at the table can bet on the results, including players who are not shooting. A round has two stages. The first roll is the come-out roll:

• A 7 or 11 wins immediately for Pass Line bets.

The main bets

• Pass Line. The standard bet described above, carrying a house edge of about 1.4 percent.
• Don't Pass. Effectively the opposite side, with a marginally lower edge. It wins when most of the table loses, which matters socially at a live table and not at all online.
• Odds. An additional bet placed behind a Pass or Don't Pass wager once a point is set. It is paid at true odds and carries no house edge at all, which makes it the most valuable bet available.
• Come and Don't Come. The same logic as Pass and Don't Pass, but started on a later roll, letting you have several points working at once.
• Place bets. Betting that a specific number appears before a 7. Reasonable value on 6 and 8, weaker elsewhere.
• Proposition and hardway bets. Single-roll wagers in the middle of the layout with large payouts and a house edge that runs into double digits.

Tips and Strategy

Craps has no strategy that turns a negative expectation positive, but the spread between the best and worst bets is unusually wide. Choosing well is the closest thing to an edge the game offers.

• Build around the line bets. Pass or Don't Pass, backed with the maximum free odds your bankroll comfortably supports, produces the lowest combined house edge available.
• Avoid the centre of the table. Any 7, the hardways and most proposition bets pay well precisely because they lose far more often than they look like they should.
• Treat betting systems carefully. Structured approaches such as the 3 Point Molly or the Iron Cross organise your money and can make a session more engaging, but they do not alter the underlying odds, and progressive staking plans mainly increase how much you risk.
